One of the greatest challenges facing mankind in the twenty-first century is energy. Starting with the industrial revolution in the 18 century, fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas have been the main energy resources for everything. It is understandable that solar and alternative energy resources have been studied and utilized. The most abundant energy resources available to human society are solar and alternative energy. The most powerful source of energy on the Earth is actually our Sun. It is been difficult to turn sun light into electricity. The world has a big appetite for power and solar power has to be comparatively priced and reliable. People can actually save money using solar and alternative energy or make money. Citizens can also sell their extra solar power.

The utilization of solar and alternative energy is as old as human history. However, to date, among various types of renewable energy resources, solar energy is the least utilized. Nevertheless, as a result of intensive research and development, the utilization of solar energy, especially solar photovoltaic, is enjoying an amazingly rapid progress. Solar photovoltaic’s is the single most promising substitute for fossil energy. Therefore, it is realistic to expect that in the latter half of the 21 century solar and alternative energy will become the most important sources of energy.

Why solar and alternative energy? The short answer to this question is – why not? Here is an example how household energy consumption can be split up into different uses – 24% of our energy usage goes on heating water, 5% of our energy is used for cooking, 13% of our energy consumption is used to power lights and appliances in the home and 58 of our energy consumption goes on space heating. Solar and alternative energy is green, clean, and free. It is not going anywhere for about the next few billion years.

Solar and alternative energy are a big topic these days. Most people are worried for the natural environment and the way that human beings are impacting on the world that they are living in. Solar energy is produced by accumulating sunlight and converting it into electrical power. This is done by using solar cells. This type of energy is becoming more popular in urban locations.

Most common types of solar and alternative energy are hydrogen, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind energy and ethanol.  We can use the wind as an energy source, also. Wind is a form of solar energy.  One of the advantages of wind energy is that wind farms can be tourist attractions. Wind is 100 percent free and provides no waste or greenhouse fumes. The problem can occur when there is no wind in some days. Other disadvantages are that wind energy can be noisy and can kill birds.  As you can see, solar and alternative energycan effectively replace fossil fuels.

Whether alternative energy sources such as solar energy, hydrogen, wind energy or geothermal energy can meet energy requirements better than limited fossil fuels like oil. Geothermal energy is thermal energy stored and generated in the Earth. Solar and alternative energy will definitely deliver proper right answers to the energy crisis which will turn out to be more apparent as our oil and gas supplies deplete and the value of energy rises drastically in the near future.

In the future, solar photovoltaics will become the main source of electricity, a technology that works well with electric cars. Try to use solar and alternative energy today! Remember, we have to start as individuals to do things and save a part of our environment. You will not regret it.
