Is a Leviton timer switch appropriate for a 1500w heater?
I have a Leviton wall switch timer with buttons for 2, 5 10 and 15 minutes. Press the button and power is applied for that amount of time.
Is this product suitable for a 1500 watt toe-kick heater in a bathroom? On the one hand the front of the package says it's rated at 20 Amps which should be plenty. (20A x 120volts = 2400 watts which is greater than 1500). But on the back it says "Rated: 1000W Incandenscent".
Can someone please explain the discrepancy?
Incandescent lamps have a HUGE "inrush" of current before the filament gets hot, so the closing contact has to carry a lot of current for incandescent loads. The heater doesn't have inrush current. So you're OK.
